Jake Robertson 6'1", 190 lb Born Aaron Jacob Robertson to Isaac and Leah Robertson in Los Angeles, California, Jake was a pampered (by the Mexican housekeeper) only-child. Growing up in a Beverly Hills mansion, he received the best that money could buy...clothes, cars, a private-school education. He just didn't have the attention of his busy parents. Dad was never at home. He was a busy attorney for the entertainment industry. And mom, Leah, was constantly planning the next social outing or involved in a community-activist project, so Jake was raised by the staff. Then came the unexpected...baby sister, Cara. Jake ignored her, at first. He had his friends, a band, his surfboard, and a host of extracurricular activities including Tae Kwon Do, of which he was one test from a black belt, to keep him constantly busy. And to top it all, he was a high school senior looking forward to college. The last thing he had time for was a baby sister. Then he graduated and the opportunity arose for him to stick it to his inattentive parents. Jake loved college where he studied Sports Medicine and Sociology. His father was beyond proud, sure that his son planned to follow up with medical school. He wasn't sure what he wanted to do with his life, but he knew he didn't want to be a doctor, though he didn't tell his folks. He was a physical guy and by his freshman year had a 2nd degree black belt in his beloved Tae Kwon Do, which led him to a fairly new form of martial arts called Krav Maga. The training emphasized the swift disarmament and apprehension of an attacker. Jake quickly mastered the art as he trained not with average people, but with police officers, security personnel, and body guard-types. It helped him find his niche. He wanted to be a cop, so upon receiving his degree, he enrolled and was immediately accepted into the Los Angeles Police Academy, much to his parents chagrin. 22-year old Jake received the same training as every other cadet. But more importantly, he found a family who accepted him as he was without unreasonable expectations. Within three years, his superiors took notice of his talents, particularly in the areas of physical education and self-defense. He was soon taken off the streets and placed in a position where his expertise could be better utilized...training new cadets and getting them into tip-top physical shape at the very academy where he had been just a few years earlier. Late one evening in 1999, while working at his off-duty gig as a bouncer at The Cathouse, Jake met two women, Jess Mitchell and Niki Shannon, one of whom fascinated him as no previous woman had. Probably the most intelligent woman he'd ever met, 20-year old Jess was a graduate student at a local university and one of the prettiest girls that Jake had ever laid eyes on. But not one to trust strangers, even one who identified himself as one of the good guys, she was wary of getting involved, especialy with a guy five years older and obviously more experienced than she. So they parted ways. Luckily, Jake ran into her again a few weeks later after an old friend of her dad, Captain Rob Kurtis, got her a position at the academy helping administer the POPAT (police officer physical education test) to new applicants and teaching the psychology classes required of new cadets. Even better, he would be working directly with her as he was in charge of the POPAT course. The pair hit it off and soon were inseparable. Jake became very special to Jess for many reasons, not the least of which was that he was her first real boyfriend. He introduced her to new cultures, as California was rife with people and activities that she'd not been exposed to back home. Along with his family, he taught her about parts of her heritage that she knew little about...the Jewish side that she knew nothing of since her mother was no longer alive to show her. He became her first lover and her best friend (aside from Niki who was still in New York) all rolled into one neat, gorgeous package. They eventually moved into Jake's small apartment where they lived comfortably until Jess finished the academic part of grad school. Unfortunately, as good as they were together, the relationship was doomed to fail. Jess still had to complete an internship for her degree. She was offered the position of her dreams back at home in North Carolina with the State Bureau of Investigation, which had the potential to become permanent should the internship go well, but Jake wasn't interested in pulling up roots and moving to the east coast. He had a home, a great career, and family that he was now more appreciative of, including the now 8-year old baby sister who he adored. So the couple made a clean, amicable break. Jake wouldn't realize until much later how wrong he was to let Jess go. But as luck would have it, the Fates would bring the two back together in 2008 when each of them take on entirely different and sometimes conflicting roles in a case that Jess is called on to profile. Both older and much wiser, will they find their way back into one another's arms, or is Jess destined to be Jake's one-that-got-away. Read Dangerous Heat to find out. Visit Jake's MySpace page.
