Dark brown hair (graying at the temples), blue eyes, lean and physically fit

At age 51, Dean Johansen is in some of the best times of his life...the beginning of his golden years. He has everything he could want...a nice home, a great career, and a beautiful, successful daughter. But it wasn't always this way. He's been dealt some hard blows and had to work hard to get where he is.

Dean began his career as a beat cop where he walked the streets at night checking doors in the business district and putting himself through college where he met longtime friends, Rob Kurtis (who figures heavily in Dangerous Heat) and John Mitchell, who eventually became his partner after they both made Detective.

In 1978, he married his college sweetheart, JoAnna, the woman he thought he would spend the rest of his life with. Tragically, she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in December, 1988 by the fertility specialist who they had consulted to learn why they had not been able to conceive a child. A short two months later, JoAnna passed away at the young age of 31.

Later that summer, Dean was hit with a double whammy when his gest friend and partner, John Mitchell, and wife Suzanne were killed in a botched robbery attempt, leaving their nearly 10-year old daughter, Jess, an orphan. Being her Godfather, Dean didn't hesitate to take her in, showering her with more love and attention than any child could want, and filling the void in both their lives.

Dean spent the next twenty years raising Jess and getting her through college and then graduate school, neglecting his own personal life...or so everyone thought. Did he secretly find love again? And if so, with whom?
