Josef Armand Bedrich was born in New Braunfels, Texas to a career military man, Josef, Sr. and wife, Kriszta Olesia Gavrilopoulos, the wife he picked up while stationed at a base in Greece. As many children of military personnel can attest, Josef's (or Armand, as his friends call him) upbringing was strict and quite rigid. Young Armand learned early on to stay inline or be punished severely.

As he grew older, he began to enjoy the punishment, even encouraged it. But as a son, he also sought his father's approval. He even followed in his father's footsteps by joining the Marines, where he could make his father proud and maintain the rigid structure that he had grown up with. But it wasn't to last. Armand became depressed and started self-medicating with alcohol, which led to his medical discharge.

He bounced around several states trying to find his place in life, finally landing in central North Carolina where he encountered Elaine Franklin, an experienced Domme and member of a large, but highly secretive, group of individuals who live a lifestyle, known as BDSM, or Bondage, Domination, and Sadomasochism. He's been with Elaine for three years. He fulfills her need for a slave, and she, his craving for structure. They occasionally host small play parties for selected members of the BDSM community and frequently attend monthly meetings of an organization known as KLAASP at a local BDSM-friendly coffee shop called the Java Hut. (Kinda makes you wonder if the owner is a Star Wars fan, eh?)

At one of these meeting he becomes acquainted with Jess Mitchell, who is posing undercover as a new sub in hopes of flushing out a vicious serial killer preying on submissive women in the area. They soon figure out that they've been acquainted for weeks as Armand had already taken Jess under wing, but online, teaching her the ways of being a proper sub, using the aliases of SubMarine and SubDoer.

Will Armand have the information that Jess needs to catch a killer? And does it come in time to help before another woman dies?
